White Cane Awareness Day

White Cane Awareness Day, first recognized at the White House in 1964, emphasizes the independence and safety of people who are blind or visually impaired. The white cane symbolizes freedom and safety for those with vision loss and alerts others to their presence.

Welcome to Triangle Federation of the Blind 2nd White Cane Awareness Events 2025! Join us in promoting inclusion, independence and sharing resources for the blind and low vision community at Artspace on Tuesday October 14th, 2025. This event will feature an educational seminar and lunch ($30), an afternoon resource fair(free).

Our key note speaker is Lex Gillette, Lex is a Raleigh Native and the most decoreated totally blind long and triple jumper ins US History. He is a five-time Paralympic medalist and four-time world champion. All proceeds from the event will go to supporting the work of the Triangle Federation of the Blind.

We have also designed our White Cane Day Tshirts and they are available to order. You will be able to pick them up on October 14th at the time you check in at our registration table.
